PLUTO:
A WEBSITE FOR KIDS
The VPRO broadcast organization asked students to create a website
for children. This resulted in a planet called 'Pluto' where everybody
who logs in gets their own identity. There are several craters on
this planet with different attractions. One of these is the digital
zoo. The zoo has four sections: the woods, the savanna, the rainforest
and an ice floe. In every area there are five animals to adopt. When
you've adopted an animal, it's intended that you keep looking after
your animal. If you don't, the animal will decay and will eventually
die. If you adopt an animal, you willl have to look after it of course.
The adopter is the only one who can do that. When looking at someone
else's animal, you can send him or her a note about the way the animal
is taken care of. If you don't want the animal anymore, you can return
the care of the animal to the zoo, so someone else will be able to
adopt it. Unfortunately the VPRO has taken the site offline since
they do not longer maintain their 'old' cgi scripts. © VPRO 1994.
